Exploring Beijing: Our First Family Adventure in China 🇨🇳

China is such a fascinating country to visit! With over 14,000 kilometers of coastline, dramatic deserts, and towering mountains, it’s a destination that seems to have it all. This was our very first family trip to China, and of course, we had to start with its vibrant capital — Beijing.

Beijing is a sprawling city of more than 11 million people, where ancient traditions meet ultra-modern architecture at every corner. You can walk from centuries-old temples to sleek skyscrapers in the same afternoon — it’s that kind of place.

We only had a few days to explore, but we were determined to make the most of it. Our first stop was the Beijing Zoo. Normally, it’s crowded, but since we went in winter — when the air was crisp and cold — we practically had the place to ourselves! Watching the giant pandas munching on bamboo was pure joy, and the tiger was absolutely mesmerizing. Sure, it was freezing, but totally worth it.

Since none of us speak Mandarin (or Pekingese, for that matter), we decided to make things easier by joining the Two-Day Beijing Boutique Tour — and it turned out to be an excellent choice.

On our first day, we checked off some of Beijing’s most iconic landmarks: Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City, and of course, the Great Wall of China — an absolute must-see! The following day, we explored the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park, and even got to see the famous Bird’s Nest and Water Cube from the 2008 Olympics. We wrapped up with a delicious lunch at Dawanju Restaurant, which I highly recommend if you’re in the area.

We booked everything through China Highlights, and they were wonderful — professional, organized, and super friendly. Honestly, the entire experience was even better than I imagined.

Beijing completely exceeded our expectations — full of history, energy, and surprises at every turn. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of what this incredible country has to offer!
